Video has now become an essential marketing tool for any business. The pandemic brought it to never-seen levels and it looks like it will keep going up. We’ll tell you some reasons on why video is the future of marketing.

93% of marketers who use video say that it’s an important part of their marketing strategy. This was 92% in 2020, 91% in 2019, 85% in 2018, 82% in 2017, 88% in 2016 and 78% in 2015.

The trend is clear. Businesses are continuing adopting video as marketing tools. 86% of businesses admit using it in 2021. This was 85% in 2020, 87% in 2019, 81% in 2018, 63% in 2017 and 61% in 2016.

 

People are watching video more than ever

 

Nowadays it looks like people are wolfing over video content. Instagram Reels is a testament to this. People are more and more watching walls of videos rather than static content  (the good ol’ instapics). And the COVID-19 pandemic brought it to levels never seen before.

68% of consumers say the pandemic has impacted the amount of video content they’ve watched online, with the overwhelming majority (96%) saying this has increased.

This has come to stay as people will continue consuming content this way.

Even though Video is expensive to do, it definitely shields better results. So overall it’s a strategy that pays off.

87% of video marketers say video, in general, gives them a good return on their investment.

People also prefer to watch, rather than to read. This keeps increasing with each generation. Think… when was the last time you actually took a pen and wrote? How much of the content you read is digital vs. analog? 96% of people have watched an explainer video to learn more about a product or service. And it makes sense, it’s faster and easier to digest.

And when asked how they’d most like to learn about a product or service, 69% said they’d prefer to watch a short video. This compares to 18% who’d rather read a text-based article, website or post, 4% who’d like to view an infographic, 3% who’d rather download an ebook or manual, 3% who’d rather attend a webinar or pitch, and 2% who’d like a sales call or demo. So yes, people are gearing toward video more than ever.

 

Interactive is Key

 

People want to experience more from their brands. And as many people have theorized over the years, the reason why people prefer video games to movies is because YOU ARE THE HERO, rather than watching the protagonist be the hero.

85% of people would like to see more video from brands in 2021. 24% of video marketers plan to include interactive video in their 2021 video marketing strategy. (+3% from last year)

It is important passive experiences give way to active experiencies where the user can feel engaged and be part of it.

Like The Buggles said in their 80’s song, video has not only killed the radio star but also any other type of content. Its constant thirst for blood is keeping any other format on their toes as it continues to haunt them wherever they go.

And marketers know this. More than 99% of people who used video for marketing in 2020 say they’ll continue using video in 2021. And 96% of people will either increase (67%) or maintain (29%) their spend.

So this means that it is a kill or be-killed situation with video. It’s no longer something you can escape from. So the question now is no longer why video is the future, but rather… what are you waiting for?
